Whangārei Hospital Radiation Oncology
The Radiation Oncology project will extend the existing Jim Carney Cancer Centre at Whangārei Hospital. The new facility will include state-of-the-art treatment rooms, with two linear accelerator bunkers and a CT scanner room on the lower floor. These treatment rooms will be partially underground, with thick walls and a concrete roof up to two-metres thick.
The new three-level facility will be linked to the existing Cancer Centre by a bridge to its upper level, where there will be reception, consultation and waiting rooms. The middle floor will contain staff work areas.
This project is targeting a 5‑star Green Star rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council.
