Argon is building a new radiology facility on Auckland’s North Shore, next to an existing office building owned by Auckland Radiation Oncology.
The new single-level building is approximately 350m2, and contains two new radiology treatment rooms with a central control room. It is separated from the office building through a seismic gap.
The bunkers housing the two linear accelerator machines are configured with a maze system to ensure radiation shielding. The walls and roof are constructed from insitu poured reinforced concrete, with precast concrete wall cladding panels and insulated roof panels on structural steel beams.
The building is designed and constructed to very specific standards for radiation protection. Due to the weight of the building, it sits on very deep concrete piles supported by substantial foundations.
